Split the kids into two even teams. Using the basketball keys, place cones all around them (these are the goal areas), and in the center of each key, put a large traffic cone upside down, so that it is balancing on it’s apex. These are the two scoring areas. Each team selects a “goalie,” and this is the only person allowed in their scoring area. A point is scored when the other team’s cone is knocked over.
If the ball bounces twice or more times in someone’s square they are out and proceed to dunce or the end of the line of players waiting to join the game. If Kings gets out they proceed to dunce and the new King serves. When a higher ranking square gets out all below that square proceed to the next square up.
The following lesson plans for teaching handball in elementary schools have been written for grades K-l, 2-3 and 4-5. In elementary school we played a very modified variant of Chinese handball. The terms used there were a lot different than others I've heard. Chops, pops, straight A's and overlines just to name a few.
Handball Association promotes “any ball, any wall” in teaching. Teachers are encouraged to use any available equipment and space. Handball can be taught as a unit for the entire class in the gymnasium or used as a station activity in one section of the gym. There is no need for regulation sized courts in a gymnasium. If a player hits the ball in such a fashion that it bounces more than once before hitting the wall or does not bounce at all before hitting the wall , that player is out. If a player allows the ball to hit the ground more than once before he fields it, that player is out. If a player hits the ball in such a fashion that it hits the ground outside the boundaries of the playing field (either before hitting the wall or on its initial bounce after hitting the wall), that player is out.
